TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian agriculture jihad minister said that the country's pistachio export increased to 197,000 tons in the past year from 121,000 tons in 2004, registering a growth of 80,000 tons in the past three years
Speaking to the Islamic republic news agency on Monday, Mohammad Reza Eskandari added that the value of a kilo gram of pistachio has gone up to dlrs 6.2 in the global markets from dlrs 4.2 during the same period.
Rejecting the claim that global markets of crops such as pistachio and saffron have got out of Iran's control, he further said that currently, 90 percent of saffron market is governed by Iran.
No country can replace Iran in saffron market in the short term, the minister noted.
Referring to the growth of Iran's agricultural crops production to 104 million tons from 25 million tons before the victory of the Islamic Revolution, Eskandari said that currently, some seven to eight million tons of Iran's agricultural products are exported to foreign countries.
"If we can transfer technologies to the production field, agricultural production will increase by three-fold," he said. Pistachio and saffron production reached 300,000 and 170 tons last year respectively, Eskandari said.
